Jean Sibelius

About

The first "composer" composer on this list, Jean Sibelius was a Finnish composer of Late Romantic to Early Modern music. He originally sought to be a concert violinish but soon turned his attention to composing.

What they mean to me

I listened to a lot of Romantic Period music in high school and Sibelius' dense symphonic music was something I loved.

Examples

Though composed an etude for piano and maybe unaligned with his intent, I love this version of the piece with the lyrical cello and light guitar playing.

I won't post an entire Sibelius symphony here though they're worth listening to. Valse Triste is a short symphonic work that showcases some of his rich writing.
