You may not have heard of Maury, but you've probably heard him. He was Jim Croce's guitar player. Early on in their partnership Maury was actually the main singer until Jim took over. Aside from his work with Jim, Maury released his music as a solo artist.

What to listen for

Maury created some of the best guitar accompaniments of all time. Listen to how he's able to make Jim shine by providing fills at exactly the right time. He always serves the music rather than trying to draw attention to himself.

Examples

Operator is one the best folk songs ever written. Maury's has some very interesting guitar work on this track but it never overtakes Jim or sounds out of place.
